Unearthly (Unearthly #1) by Cynthia Hand

Unearthly (Unearthly, #1)

Unearthly (Unearthly #1)

In the beginning, there's a boy standing in the trees . . . .

Clara Gardner has recently learned that she's part angel. Having angel blood run through her veins not only makes her smarter, stronger, and faster than humans (a word, she realizes, that no longer applies to her), but it means she has a purpose, something she was put on this earth to do. Figuring out what that is, though, isn't easy.
Her visions of a raging forest fire and an alluring stranger lead her to a new school in a new town. When she meets Christian, who turns out to be the boy of her dreams (literally), everything seems to fall into place—and out of place at the same time. Because there's another guy, Tucker, who appeals to Clara's less angelic side.
As Clara tries to find her way in a world she no longer understands, she encounters unseen dangers and choices she never thought she'd have to make—between honesty and deceit, love and duty, good and evil. When the fire from her vision finally ignites, will Clara be ready to face her destiny?
Unearthly is a moving tale of love and fate, and the struggle between following the rules and following your heart.

Okay, my daughter called me on the phone, yelling, “MOM! You’ve got to read this book. Unearthly is the greatest book I’ve read in long time.” Now, my daughter and I don't always see eye to eye when it comes to books, but I’ll give her this one, "I told you so, Mom" this time. Unearthly has the most amazing, heart-throbbing romance, strongest plot, beautiful writing, and wonderful characters.  It just flows with more and more emotions with each page you turn, taking you deeper into the lives of Clara, Tucker and Christian. And yes it’s a love triangle, but it’s the most intense build-up to Clara and Tucker’s relationship as well Clara's relationship with Christian that I’ve seen in long time. It will embrace you. Clara is strong, courageous girl with a vision and purpose for her life, but her mouth has a way of running off with the first thought that pops into her head. And this is how she gets off to bad start with Tucker. He gives Clara a rough time after their lunch room encounter, but the meaner Tuck treats Clara, the more he falls for her. Tucker is level headed, easy going, gorgeous, has a rock hard body—Tucker is THE MAN. He had my heart when the word carrots came out his mouth, he won me with that. Christian’s a great guy, but he has a girlfriend, and a secret. I think we will get the answers to Clara's situation with Christian in the next book. Unearthly is a must, must read! Cynthia Hand has written an awesome book. I for one... no make that two (my daughter) can’t wait for the second book!

Hunting Human had me hooked by the first chapter. I couldn't put this book down. The story definitely pulls you in. Beth is troubled but strong, independent young woman trying to get her life back together after her friend Rachel gets killed by the Bolveks’ brothers. Beth escapes the Bolveks, but not without her life changing forever. She never stays in one place too long. She ends up in Portland, where she meets Braden Edwards, a handsome, strong , and charming werewolf who won't take no for answer when it comes to being with Beth. How can Beth not love Braden as he throws her in the trunk of his car, taking her to his family’s house? And how can Braden not love Beth as she hits him with a car jack across the head? These two are crazy about each other. But all this tough love, with their on and off again romance, is what I enjoy about these two. It will have you glued to the book. And then there’s Markko Bolvek, who is also a werewolf bound to have Beth, but for entirely different reasons. But there’s no way the Edwards are going to allow that to happen. An action-packed, highly romantic read, I recommend Hunting Human for lovers of paranormal romance and readers just wanting something fresh.
Cant wait to see where Braden,Beth and The Edwards family go in second book to this series.

I won Violet Midnight on a Goodreads giveaway. I'm so glad I entered for this book and even more I won! I’ve started reading more self-published books lately, and like most of them, but this is one I can truly say I loved. The romance between Elias and Jane is so amazingly beautiful and tender. I was captivated. Jane is an enchantress who is content living a quiet and isolated life, until her dreams begin taking her to Elias—the man she’s destine to love and forever be with. I fell in love with Elias’ character. He is truly a beautiful man, and I’m not just taking about his gorgeous looks, but his heart. His love for Jane will have you swooning. This story is also about healing a relationship between a son and his parents, but also Elias parents for each other and their son. There is also a little humor. I don't do spoilers, but I really have to tell Allie Burke thank you for the art gallery scene between Elias and Jane. I was laughing so hard at Elias with the little problem he was having with his pants. Violet Midnight (The Enchanters #1) by Allie Burke is definitely a must read! Looking forward to reading the second book Emerald Destiny in The Enchanters series.

I enjoyed reading this book. It was a beautiful love story. I have to say, this is definitely a very different Paranormal than I’ve ever read. Never read a story that involved break dancers. But Van Diepen has created wonderful characters. Raven is a strong, level headed girl. Her brother Josh is addict to meth, which gives her mom and dad a lot of heart ache, and this in return causes stress in her family. Zin, who is a part of the break dance group called the Toprocks (which Raven also dances in), is the male love interest. Raven starts working at the same club Zin bartends at, and also where they have dance battles with other break dancers. Raven falls for Zin, but he keeps her at distant. Zin keeps his true identity a secret from Raven. Carlo, the club owner where Zin and Raven work, has his own plans for Raven. And Zin is against these plans. This book has an amazing plot and has a very unique ending. Never seen it done in a paranormal book like this. And I love it, and highly recommend Raven as must read!

I have to say Aimee Carter surprised me in the Goddess Test. I didn't see the ending coming at all. She totally caught me off guard with it, and I love when a book can do that. The ending is amazing! WOW! I really liked Kate. She’s handed one of life’s most heartbreaking situations, waiting for her mom to die, and living with death looming is why she can’t let anyone else die, even when it’s a girl who hates her. Kate is strong, caring, and willing to do what it takes so others don't have to go through the same kind of suffering. At first, I didn’t really like how Henry treated Kate. It seemed Kate was giving up everything for him and he didn't seem to be giving anything back to her. But in the end, Henry came through for Kate, and I love his character and can’t wait to see what he does next and how his character will grow. James is also one I'm waiting to see where his character goes. I have a feeling I’m really going to like him in the next book. I really did enjoy The Goddess Test. It’s definitely must read! And so waiting for the second book Goddess Interrupted.

The cover is so beautiful, I just had to read it. And the story inside is just as amazing. Born at Midnight had me laughing, crying, and angry. Instead of a love triangle, there’s a love quadrangle. It was difficult for me to choose between the tender, patient, and  beautiful, Derek, and the rough, hard, caring, bad boy, Lucas, I mean, when a guy hands you line like, "You have no idea how beautiful you are, do you?” while he's brushing a strand of hair from your cheek, how can you not love him? I can’t decide who Kylie should be with. The Jerk ex-boyfriend is oblivious out, but Lucas and Derek, mmmm; heck let her have both lol. Everyone should have friends like Della and Miranda. Della had me laughing my butt off with her in-your-face altitude. You just don't mess with Della. Miranda is the tender quite type, but she’s also tough. These two girls are loyal friends to Kylie. I really like when an author shows the real, today teens, and C. C. Hunter does a wonderful job with her characters. She shows it with the language and the romances. All the charters are well developed, and the plot is strong. I’m waiting for the second book in this series. Just to let you know, there is a FREE Turned at Dark (Shadow Falls Short Story) eBook on B&N's that tells Della’s and her cousin Chan’s story. Definitely recommend Born at Midnight, an excellent read. You will love it.

Once I sat down to read Shades of Atlantis, I couldn’t put it down. Triona’s character at the beginning honestly frustrated me. I was screaming: OPEN YOUR MOUTH GIRL; say what you need to say. But if a book didn't get you worked up, it wouldn't be good. I'm glad to say by the end, Triona had grown into strong and powerful women. And Caleb had me loving him from the start. He's handsome, strong, knows what he wants, and he wants Triona. He sacrificed everything for her. There was one character I couldn’t understand why was in the story, John. My heart just breaks for him. This poor guy does not come out well in this book and he is such a great guy. (Sad). Ben, I really liked. He's laid back like most teen boys, and then in another scene he’s tough and got it together. This story is beautiful, amazing, and strong. Everybody has secrets except Triona and Ben who had to discover who they were and the power that came with that discovery. Shades of Atlantis is defiantly a must read.

The Twisted Tale of Stormy Gale took me by surprise. I was not expecting such a powerful love story, but it completely BLEW ME WAY. There should be a WARNING: Grab a box of tissues before reading. Stormy is a strong woman, due to her mother abandoning her on the streets of London at age of 13, she had to toughen up. Bacon, who’s 6, is Stormy little brother also living on the streets with her, she's taking care of him too. A time traveler named Gilly discovered the two on one of his trips back in time, and took them back to live with him in the future. After they grew up, Stormy and Bacon begin to have their own time travels. Delvin, who met Stormy while she and Bacon were living on the streets of London, cares deeply for Stormy. And when Delvin sees Stormy disappear with Gilly, it devastates him. One of the most beautiful scenes is when Delvin follows Stormy to the beach. I won't say anymore so not to give any spoilers, but this part tears my heart a part. Also, you'll find out why Delvin is called Loony Duke, and that too breaks my heart. This is one of the most amazingly beautiful love stories I've ever read. A definite must read. I'm looking forward to reading more of Christine Bell. She truly knows how to write romance with a capital R.

In Fang Me, Val Shapiro is faced with hard decisions to make. And what she chooses will affect her life forever. Val's love for Shade, and her powers, are in question. Shade is an amazing character. He definitely gives all of himself to Val, and allows her to be herself. This book is a turning point for Val and Shade. I’ve enjoyed reading Bite Me, Try Me, and Fang Me, so I was little sad to see Val's story coming to an end, but Parker Blue is going to write one more book in this series. Make Me it will be coming out in 2012. I’m hoping the author will keep Val and Shade story going on to a fifth book. Val's charter is wonderful; I never tire of reading her actions and thoughts. Thank you, Parker Blue, for this amazing and beautiful story of Val,Shade, and Fang.

Val's hunky human partner, Detective Dan Sullivan, is giving her the cold shoulder since she beheaded his vampire ex-fiancée. The mucho powerful Encyclopedia Magicka has been stolen, someone in the Demon Underground is poisoning vamps, and Val's inner lust demon, Lola, is getting very restless since Val's now partnered with sexy Shade, the shadow demon with the blond good looks of an angel. The second book in Parker Blue's Demon Underground urban fantasy series plunges readers deeper into a heady world of passion, friendship, intrigue and mystery.
Parker Blue lives in the wilds of Colorado with her own faithful hellhound, and she's hard at work on the next Val Shapiro book in the Demon Underground series.

Try Me is the second book in The Demon Underground series. Val’s character in Bite Me was great,  but she blew me away in Try me. She’s so much stronger and her character has more depth. I just love female charters that know how to stand up for themselves. Val is definitely no Bella, you won't find her crying over a broken heart or other troubles. Now Dan is the lead guy from the first book. He had me swooning, but in this edition he's a number one jerk. I have to applaud Ms. Blue, she knows how to write a creep. Steam was literally coming out of my ears with Dan. You know its amazing story when you find yourself saying, "Just let me get my hands on that guy." Shade’s charter in this book has stepped up to the plate. I didn’t see him coming in the first book, but Shade has stolen my heart. With each book the plot becomes more exciting and richer. Can't wait to see where the third book, Fang Me, takes Val, Shade, Dan, and rest of the charters in this series. I would like to say that Parker Blue is amazing author when it comes to writing strong female characters. No matter what comes Val's way, she won’t give up, and quit isn't in Val’s vocabulary.

Bite Me made my emotions range from angry to sad, happy, and then laughing myself crazy. THIS BOOK WAS GREAT! Val is a strong, sassy, tough kick your butt vampire slayer. And she doesn’t like to be called Buffy. Val, at 18 years old, is told she has to move out. More like her mom throws her out. Needless to say, Val's mom has some serious issues. One, she needs to take responsibility for her own actions instead of using Val as her scapegoat. Val packs up, sucks it up, though, and heads out into the world. She meets Fang, the half hellhound terrier, who’s homeless, too. Fang becomes her sidekick, and he’s just as kick butt as Val when it comes to taking out vampires. Fang also has one heck of a since of humor. Now on her own, Val decides she needs a job. Dan, who works for the SCU (special crimes unit) offers her a job after witnessing her taking out a vamp. They become partners. They develop a heated love/hate relationship. Val's stepsister, Jen, idolizes her big sister and although she has the best intentions of helping Val, ends up making her already bad situation with the local vamps even worse. And when Dan discovers Val's half succubus, and he shuns her, it breaks my heart. I won’t tell you if they work it out or not, that’s part of the good stuff, but I can’t wait to read the next book to see where things lead. This book is defiantly worth the read. I highly recommend it.

I started reading Amaretto Flame at 8:00 p.m. last night, and the next thing I knew it was 2:00 A.M., You know a book is good when you lose track of time. I really loved the characters in Sammie Spencer’s book. Let’s start with Olivia. She’s strong-willed and a little rebellious, and she’ll do whatever it takes to protect her family. That's probably why I love her so much—that and she can kick some major butt. Then there’s Jackson, the gorgeous musician that all girls want, but can’t have. Jackson’s the bad boy who just wants to play the field. No girl can claim his heart. But there’s something different about Olivia that pulls Jackson to her, however, Olivia is guarding her heart also. So will these two ever get together? Or will Venator, family, and their own hearts stop them from finding love. I love this book, it has it all romance, action, bad guys that you're wanting. So if you're looking for a book you won’t be able to put down—you just have to know how it ends—then Amaretto Flame (Eagleton Coven) by Sammie Spencer is defiantly a book to check out.

Starcrossed by Josephine Angelini

From Goodreads: Helen Hamilton has spent her entire sixteen years trying to hide how different she is—no easy task on an island as small and sheltered as Nantucket. And it's getting harder. Nightmares of a desperate desert journey have Helen waking parched, only to find her sheets damaged by dirt and dust. At school she's haunted by hallucinations of three women weeping tears of blood . . . and when Helen first crosses paths with Lucas Delos, she has no way of knowing they're destined to play the leading roles in a tragedy the Fates insist on repeating throughout history.

As Helen unlocks the secrets of her ancestry, she realizes that some myths are more than just legend. But even demigod powers might not be enough to defy the forces that are both drawing her and Lucas together—and trying to tear them apart.

YA Bound Review: Oh heaven help me, not only is this kind of love story that fires me up, but there’s sparks flying around the non-love interest guys, too!  Angelini is an amazing writer. She sets up a beautiful love story that has spanned the ages combined with an intense plot that keeps you turning the pages. Her writing is clear, descriptive, passionate, and at times humorous. One scene I was holding my breath and the next I was laughing out loud. A writer soon becomes one of my faves when she/he can pull off the love/hate relationship between characters, and Angilini smoked it with Helen and Lucas. Helen can’t seem to control the voice within herself urging her to kill Lucas, and finds herself chasing him down in the hallway at school, ready to pound his head in. But as the story progresses—no spoilers—Lucas and Helen overcome this, and fall in love. Beautifully written, the romance in this story is breathtaking. I loved all the twists and turns and heightened tension between Helen and Lucas as they struggled to be together, and decipher their connection to one another. The other characters are wonderful, too. Lucas’s family (hot brothers, whoa—and cool sisters) are great at helping to build that tension. I have to admit that I did kind of see the twist near the end coming, and was praying it didn’t go there, but… At least part of the story is written in third person, so we get another POV and the reader doesn’t have to wait till the next book to breathe a little easier. I really liked Helen. I’m so happy she was not a whinny, pouty girl that isn't willing to accept her powers. She’s tough, smart, and ready to fight for what she wants. I love the romance in this story. I love the action, the suspense, the plot, and… Just everything! It’s a great addition to the YA market and I’m counting down the days till I can get my hands on the second book. Anyone who enjoys Greek mythology, smoldering, true love romance, and action-packed plots, will devour Starcrossed. I highly recommend it!

Darkest Mercy is the final book in Wicked Lovely series. Wicked lovely started with Aislinn, and ends with Keenan. And I’m glad Keenan finally came out on top (literally) :) Not all of the wicked lovely characters had a happy ending, though. I won’t mention which ones, as I don’t want to spoil it. However, I wish one of my favorite characters could've had a better outcome, but I do understand why Melissa Marr wrote his story as such, and the reasons behind it. And I’m just so happy for keenan! He was the bad boy jerk, but I personally loved him. So hats off to Ms. Marr for letting my Keenan have his bed and lie in it, too… and not alone I might add. (My Thoughts)  5 STARS!!!!!
Delirium is one of the years greatest reads. You just can't stop LOVE from happening. And I got to say, I'm glad for that, because the love story between these two is one you'll be rooting for. This is a Dystopian. And I for one am starting to really love these books. This is a must read!!
