Ward Against Death (Chronicles of a Reluctant Necromancer #1)

Twenty-year-old Ward de’Ath expected this to be a simple job—bring a nobleman’s daughter back from the dead for fifteen minutes, let her family say good-bye, and launch his fledgling career as a necromancer. Goddess knows he can’t be a surgeon—the Quayestri already branded him a criminal for trying—so bringing people back from the dead it is.

But when Ward wakes the beautiful Celia Carlyle, he gets more than he bargained for. Insistent that she’s been murdered, Celia begs Ward to keep her alive and help her find justice. By the time she drags him out her bedroom window and into the sewers, Ward can’t bring himself to break his damned physician’s Oath and desert her.

However, nothing is as it seems—including Celia. One second, she’s treating Ward like sewage, the next she’s kissing him. And for a nobleman’s daughter, she sure has a lot of enemies. If he could just convince his heart to give up on the infuriating beauty, he might get out of this alive…

Ward Against Death is fantastic. I loved this story. It’s a fresh, new Paranormal. I’ve never read about Necromancers before, but as long as the story has Ward, I will be counting the days for the second book in this series. Ward and Celia are awesome characters. They grabbed me and wouldn’t let go. Talk about reversed roles: Celia is the one who is tough, fearless, the butt-kicker and Ward is the clumsy, unsure damsel in distress. These two are hilarious together. Poor Ward is trying so hard to impress Celia and prove he can be tough for her. But even though Celia can kick Ward's butt, and he's not a bad boy, I still fell in love with him. The romance between Ward and Celia has its problems in this first book, but that's where the cliffhanger comes in. I can't wait till the second book to see where the romance goes with these two. I have a feeling it’s going to be so goooood! The other thing I liked about the storyline is the POV from both Ward and Celia. I really enjoyed seeing the guy’s logic, and what he’s feeling and thinking right along with the girl’s. Ward really did it for me. He is just an awesome character, and the storyline is beautiful with all the humor, drama and action you can ask for. I love the beautiful cover, too. I highly recommend Ward Against Death as A must read!

Four Houses by Tori Scott

Four Houses

Four Houses

A young girl faced with four choices, must make a decision that will forever haunt her.

The door in front of me is the ugliest shade of plum I’ve ever seen. It’s a prune Grandma would eat, a raisin on its last leg, a swollen bruise in the most inconvenient of places.

The waiting is the worst part, wondering who will open the door. But this time the waiting is killing me, tearing me down piece by piece and devouring me with its insatiable jaws.

I bite my lip and raise my hand to knock.

Four Houses sent chills though me. I kept waiting to discover who was opening the doors of the four houses. I liked the way the doors had different colors to go with what the houses had to offer this young girl. I was enthralled from the start. Tori Scott definitely can write suspense, and for a short story, that's hard to do. Not only is the story intriguing and original, but the writing captures the reader all on its own. It’s haunting and passionate, and the description helped me visualize every moment. The choice the girl comes to was one she had never tasted, but she will forever now. Four Houses is an awesome short story. Get ready to send chills down your spine with this story. I highly recommend Tori Scott’s Four Houses as a must read!

I love how the storyline in Dark Awakening has a Queen ruling with a modern setting. I was pulled right into this vampire world with the different dynasties: Highbloods and Lowbloods under the rule of Queen Arsinoe, where your worth is determined by the tattoo that appears on your shoulder. Queen Arsinoe definitely does not believe all vampires are created equal. If you have the mark of a Cait Sith then your place in this world is to server the Queen and her highbloods. But not everyone likes this way and Highbloods are being killed. This is where Tynan comes in. He is a Cait Sith hunter sent to find a seer for the Queen. I fell in love with Tynan’s character. He’s the gorgeous, strong, and dark silent type. To get close to him, you are going to have to break down a few walls. Lily is a seer, but Lily also has a destiny to fulfill and it includes Tynan. The romance between Lily and Tynan is beautiful and hot, but Ty can’t believe Lily is his destiny. He's a Lowblood, shape-shifting vampire with issues. It’s going to take Lily’s love to finally prove to Ty that he is worth being loved.

The amazing storyline and characters in Dark Awakening are beautiful and strong. But I have to say, Tynan did it for me alone. He is just an amazingly beautiful character. I couldn't help but fall in love with him and I'm so glad there's going to be a second book. I highly recommend Dark Awakening. You won’t be disappointed. A great addition the Paranormal market.

Wildefire is an amazing and fantastically hot book . . . and I'm not just talking "hot" because it has a beautiful volcano goddess. Wildefire took me on the most emotional and exciting thrill ride and the ending just sent me over the top. Karsten Knight, how could you do that to all of us girls? Oh, don't take that the wrong way, the ending was amazing! I just hope you hurry and write the second book because where you left it, I totally held my breath saying "NO, NO,NO! Don't do this to me!” Okay, now that I got that out of my system, let me get to the characters. Ashline Wilde is one tough, kick-butt, in-your-face Polynesian girl. Ash is the queen of sarcasm and wit. She had me laughing so hard I was crying, and Colt Halliday is the drop-dead gorgeous park ranger that matches her snark. Their relationship is so sexy, steamy and hilarious at times. I was begging Ash to take it easy on Colt, but as I was pleading mercy for him, I was laughing hysterically. Colt was a glutton for punishment—he kept coming back for more of Ash’s smart tongue, but he took Ash's sarcastic lashes as if it were a lover's sweet nothings. I definitely was in swoon heaven with the romance between these two. The rest of Ash's friends—Rolfe, Raja, Ade, and Jackie—have strong and well develop personalities. I fell in love with Rolfe. He's one of those fun guy friends who always put a smile on your face. (I want a Rolfe lol) I also got my heart ripped out over him. :( The story plot was awesome, unique, and amazing. I hope Knight takes mercy on me so I don't have to wait so long on the second book. Wildefire is definitely a must read!!! I really loved this book !!! And the cover is beautiful, too!

Reborn is an amazing novella. It’s strong and deep story line including vampires, half-vampires, half-witches, and witches, is very unique. It all starts with a forbidden love between Nathaniel, who is half-vampire and half-witch, and Claire, a full witch. They’re trying to hide from Samuel Charleston—the Leader of the High Council of Witches. After Claire gives birth to Lily, Nathaniel takes Lily to live with Claire's sister, Trudy, for protection against Samuel who wants to kill Nathaniel and Claire. Trudy raises Lily, and on her eighteenth birthday, Lily comes into her full power. Soon Lily will be a Goddess of Night, because of her vampire/witch heritage. Lily discovers the truth about her parents and teams up with two vampires, Drew and Xander, and also Roxy, a witch, to find their parents that High Council also has imprison. A romance begins between Xander and Lily, and also Drew and Roxy. I wish there was more of a romantic theme for these two couples, but I can see that the author wants their relationships to develop slowly, so I'm okay with waiting for the next story to see where she takes it. I will say at beginning of this story, I got a little overwhelmed with all the characters and backstory. But I’m so glad I kept reading because it’s fantastic how Ley Mesina pulls it all together. I will definitely be waiting impatiently for the next book in this series, but I ask for one favor, more romance! lol Got to have my romance fix. I highly recommend Reborn! It is an amazing story!!

Mayhem is the third book in the Mystyx series. Jake is one of four Mystyx—teenagers given supernatural powers by a Greek goddess to fight The Darkness wanting to rule the world in evil. Mayhem has a fantastic strong storyline, and all the characters are well-developed. I fell in love with Jake's character. He is almost sixteen, sweet, shy, and a loner. He has it so bad for Krystal. I was teetering on the edge, rooting for Jake to tell Krystal his feeling for her. I have to say Artist Arthur definitely knows teen guy speak, and also how they think and act. I have to give an example of this with one of Jake's thoughts... "Grabbing a handful of grass, this occupies my hands because I don't want Krystal to think I'm a horny goof always wanting to grope her." Now that's a little insight to Jake’s character and why I like him. Jake is a Vortex, which means he has good and evil power. And when Jake is being bullied by two Jocks at school, his dark side grows stronger. The Darkness rages inside Jake, urging him to leave his Mystyx friends to become a dark one and use his powers for evil. Krystal is Jake's calm in this evil storm —her love conquering evil. There's also a playlist of Jake's songs, that adds more insight to his struggles and triumphs, I highly recommend Mayhem, a definite must read!

Goddess With A Blade is an awesome Urban Fantasy. Rowan Summerwaite is one hard, cold, and kick-butt hunter. But Rowan is also Brigid, a vessel for a Goddess. Her blade is blessed to kill vampires. She’s been placed in Las Vargas by the Hunter Corporation to keep all vampires in line. That means no killing humans. Rowan has to work with a handsome vampire named Clive Stewart, who is the Scion in Las Vegas, and he rules his vampires. He doesn't need any help from Rowan to keep his vampires in line specially after she killed the last Scion. But when a rogue vampire starts killing human women, Clive has no choice but to let Rowan do her job, which means these two have to work together, and this is where the fun starts. Rowan and Clive's hate/love relationship is hilarious. No matter how hard they try to hate each other the more they want each other. Rowan and Clive had me laughing and swooning. Rowan totally aggravated Clive in more ways than one—she has a mouth that just won’t shut-up, and this gives the strong storyline a great balance with comic relief while dealing with the seriousness of a vampire serial killer. I really enjoyed reading this book. It had all the steamy romance, humor, and drama you could ask for in an Urban Fantasy. I highly recommend Goddess With A Blade. A must read!!!

Earth pulled me right in from the beginning with its mystery and “who did it” feel. And then it kept me anxiously flipping pages till the end to find out. I kept saying no, no; please don't let it be who I think it is! But what also had me going were the three Elementals. Shayna is the leader of this threesome. She is one seriously tough girl that’s going to do whatever it takes to protect her town and classmates from the evil that has come to her peaceful town of Ojai. Jodi and Steven are her two Elementals friends, helping Shayna fight the evil just as soon as they figure who it is. These two are great. Steven with his make-up kit and Jodi with her boss attitude. They are true friends in the fight against evil. Shayna is all business, so when the new boy comes to school, she doesn't make it easy for him. I felt so sorry for Jensen. No matter how hard he tried, he could never get it right with Shayna. But Shayna does like Jensen, so I'm waiting to see where their relationship goes in the next book. Jensen is awesome, he’s gorgeous and a good guy. I would've liked to have seen more of him in this story, but I'm hoping he’ll get more screen time in the next book. Earth has a fantastic storyline—mystery, magic, elementals, action, and kick-butt teenagers. I was glued to the pages. I highly recommend Earth as definite must read!!!

BREATHE is Jax’ and Sadie’s very own Cinderella story. I fell in love with this modern day fairy tale. This is one novel I truly wished wouldn't have ended. The romance between Jax and Sadie is breathtaking. Abbi Glines can definitely write romance. The Story line and Characters are strong and well developed. Sadie is a beautiful, yet head-strong girl who’s watched her mother make all the wrong choices in her life, and so Sadie is determined to make the right ones. For her, depending on others, especially men, is not going to happen. But when Sadie has to take over her mom’s job, she meets Jax—a gorgeous rock star—and it’s all over for Sadie's vow to love no man. Jax is a gorgeous rich rock star who can have anything he wants… and he wants Sadie, the one thing he can’t. Jax and Sadie’s love for each other had me in swoon-heaven. There was one more character that I fell in love with, Marcus. This beautiful guy had my heart. There’s no doubt Sadie is Jax's heart and their meant to be together, but I would love to see more of Marcus in his own story. He is just an awesome character. Ms. Glines, please write Marcus a happy ending. Breathe is truly an awesome love story with the romance I love. I'm looking forward to reading more of Abbi Glines novels. She has such a beautiful way of writing romance. I'm highly recommend Breathe. Definitely a must read!

Vampires Rule took me by surprise. I was not expecting this book to have the awesome story line that it did. K.C.Blake has written a winner with this series. Jack’s character is terrific. He's a human turned vampire, then back to human again, who says you don't get a second chase at life. Jack's second chance comes with a beautiful werewolf hunter whose name is Silver. They are destined to be together, in order to kill the first werewolf and save the human race. But that same destiny has a plan for Jack and Silver's love life, which Jack's ex vampire girlfriend, Summer, isn't too happy about. I fell in love with Jack. Jack is seventeen, handsome, and has a down-to-earth attitude. His great sense of humor had me laughing the whole time as I read this book. Silver is also seventeen, strong-willed, and a take-charge girl that can kick some serious werewolf butt. The romance between these two has lots of laughs, a few tears, but is definitely hot. Jack has a younger brother Billy, who now is his older brother. This is a funny situation that they find themselves in. Vampires Rule has fantastic romance, humor, action, and I enjoyed reading this book from Jack's POV. Especially with his humor. The second book in this series is Werewolf Rule. I'll be putting it on my to-read-list. I definitely recommend Vampires Rule as a must read!!

Emerald Destiny ( The Enchanters #2) by Allie Burke

Emerald Destiny (The Enchanters, #2)

Emerald Destiny (The Enchanters #2)

The night was completely calm now, cool and slightly breezy, no trace of the earlier storm. The rain had been vicious, cutting through his skin like glass, his heart shattering as the shards poured into him from the sky. Not even Cameron's polished influence could muster a storm like that, one that drained his energy until he blacked out of his head. It had only ever rained like that a handful of times since Evan could remember, but every time it did, she was somewhere in the woods, crying. She said she didn't remember him. Abby was a lot of things, but never a liar. That is, until tonight.

Nineteen year old Evan spends his time in the woods of Dare Forest, as close to her as he can be, the girl that for fourteen years, his heart has ached for. The same girl that everyone around him forbids him to love.

Abby's nights are crowded between her Enchanter life, her dreading nightmares, and her enduring will to save her brother from his own inner darkness. But when Evan speaks to her for the first time in fourteen years, she finds she can no longer endure the sorrow crowding her world.

Countless times before them, the union between a Brooks woman and a Reed man has failed. The love in their hearts strives to be together forever, but will their destinies break them apart?

I’ve been waiting for the second book in the The Enchanters series, and it was well worth the wait. The love that began with a little orange-red leaf between Abby and Evan, when they were children in Violet Midnight, is now in full bloom. But when a Reeds’ man falls in love with a Brooks’ woman, it never has a happy-ending. Abby is a beautiful, strong- willed girl, who's not going to allow the history between the two families to destroy her and Evan's love. The way it did with her mother. In the first book, I saw just a glace of the doomed love between Jane and Christian. Everything was all answered in Emerald Destiny. Allie Burke’s story line and characters are strong and well-developed. The romance is so passionate I was in swoon heaven. Daniel, Abby's twin brother, is one of my favorite characters in this book. I hope I see more of him in the next book. I would love to have more on his character. Emerald Destiny is a definite must read! But, I would recommended reading the first book in The Enchanters series because it’s just too amazing to miss out on any of this story.

Legacy (Legacy, #1)

Legacy (Legacy #1)

The first boy disappeared on the day of his birth, on a night when the pale yellow moon of the nighttime sky turned red and bathed the heavens in the ghastly color of blood, on the same night the Kingdom of Cokyri abruptly ceased its merciless attack. Across the land of Hytanica, under the shadow of the crimson moon, infant boys continued to vanish. Not until the blood had faded from the sky did the disappearances stop and the bodies of the murdered infants were found outside the gates of the city, a final word from the greatest enemy Hytanica had ever known. For the next sixteen years, peace reigned, but one mystery remained unsolved. The Cokyrians had abducted forty-nine newborns, but returned only forty-eight bodies.
Now, as seventeen-year-old Princess Alera of Hytanica is besieged from all sides by suitors vying for the Throne, a teenage Cokyrian boy, Narian, is encountered within the walls of her Kingdom, a boy who will show Alera a world where women serve a purpose and not just a husband. As Narian helps Alera find her voice, she struggles against an arranged marriage that will shatter the life she has scarcely begun to live. And when Narian's shocking past is uncovered, and war with Cokyri looms once more, he must fight to defy a fate ordained at his birth.

First, I’d like to praise author Cayla Kluver. She’s only is sixteen years old. For such a young person, she’s an amazing writer. Heck, for any age she’s an amazing author. The world-building is outstanding in this novel. I was easily drawn into these two kingdoms with the Hytanicans and Cokyrians. The detail in which Cayla Kluver uses to describe the characters and world was awesome. It was like standing in the background watching a story play out in front of me as I read. All the characters in Legacy are clearly described and strong in their own personality. I liked Princess Alera. She’s seventeen and strong-willed and independent young lady, which is not good in this world where women live in submission to men. Alera"s father, King Adrik, feels the time has come for Alera to wed. He picks the prefect guy for Alera, Steldor, who is a twenty-year-old, handsome military field commander. But Alera can’t stand to even look at him. Then there is Narian, who is a gorgeous and sixteen. Blond hair and blue eyes. Alera begins to have feels for Narian, but he was kidnaped at birth and raised by their most hated enemy, the Cokyrians, whose men are submissive to their women. There’s definitely a love triangle going on between these three. I have to say I fell in love with Steldor and Narian. They’re both bad boys, but in different ways. Steldor is conceded—thinks he’s a gift to women, and Narian is rebellious, but respects women. The story line in Legacy is incredibly intriguing. It has it all: humor, drama, action, and heart-melting romance. The ending was totally fantastic, and leaves you on a cliffhanger. It will leave you holding your breath in anticipation for the second book in this series. Legacy is a must, must read!
