Ward Against Death (Chronicles of a Reluctant Necromancer #1)

by

Twenty-year-old Ward de’Ath expected this to be a simple job—bring a nobleman’s daughter back from the dead for fifteen minutes, let her family say good-bye, and launch his fledgling career as a necromancer. Goddess knows he can’t be a surgeon—the Quayestri already branded him a criminal for trying—so bringing people back from the dead it is.

But when Ward wakes the beautiful Celia Carlyle, he gets more than he bargained for. Insistent that she’s been murdered, Celia begs Ward to keep her alive and help her find justice. By the time she drags him out her bedroom window and into the sewers, Ward can’t bring himself to break his damned physician’s Oath and desert her.

However, nothing is as it seems—including Celia. One second, she’s treating Ward like sewage, the next she’s kissing him. And for a nobleman’s daughter, she sure has a lot of enemies. If he could just convince his heart to give up on the infuriating beauty, he might get out of this alive…

(My Thoughts)      5  STARS!!!!!
Ward Against Death is fantastic. I loved this story. It’s a fresh, new Paranormal. I’ve never read about Necromancers before, but as long as the story has Ward, I will be counting the days for the second book in this series. Ward and Celia are awesome characters. They grabbed me and wouldn’t let go. Talk about reversed roles: Celia is the one who is tough, fearless, the butt-kicker and Ward is the clumsy, unsure damsel in distress. These two are hilarious together. Poor Ward is trying so hard to impress Celia and prove he can be tough for her. But even though Celia can kick Ward's butt, and he's not a bad boy, I still fell in love with him. The romance between Ward and Celia has its problems in this first book, but that's where the cliffhanger comes in. I can't wait till the second book to see where the romance goes with these two. I have a feeling it’s going to be so goooood! The other thing I liked about the storyline is the POV from both Ward and Celia. I really enjoyed seeing the guy’s logic, and what he’s feeling and thinking right along with the girl’s. Ward really did it for me. He is just an awesome character, and the storyline is beautiful with all the humor, drama and action you can ask for. I love the beautiful cover, too. I highly recommend Ward Against Death as A must read!
