The Boyfriend Thief by Shana Norris

The Boyfriend Thief

The Boyfriend Thief

Avery James has her life planned out: this summer she'll work with a humanitarian program in Costa Rica, next year she'll graduate at the top of her class, and after that, college and medical school. Perfect, planned, total order.

The only problem: getting the rest of the money she needs for the trip before the deadline. Hannah Cohen, her biggest competition for the valedictorian title, makes an unexpected offer: If Avery can win over Zac Greeley and make him break up with Hannah before the end of the school year, a check for five hundred dollars is all hers. Faced with the prospect of spending yet another summer working as a giant hot dog, it's an offer Avery can't refuse.

Zac is nothing like Avery expected. Within his chaotic world of midnight slushie runs and spontaneous dance parties, her total order is quickly falling apart while Hannah seems poised to get everything she wants. But just how much is Avery willing to give up for the perfect, planned life?

(MY THOUGHTS)     5  STARS!!!!!
When I first saw the cover, then read the title and summary for The Boyfriend Thief, I said, okay, this is going to be fun and cute. Well, I definitely judged this book wrong. Shana Norris is an amazing author. She’s delivered the most heartfelt and powerful story in what I call the domino effect. When a selfish person chooses their wants or desires over love for others, just one selfish act can tip the domino, hitting the next person, and causes pain, hurt and destruction. And on and on, until one person is strong enough to say NO MORE! Then say yes to healing, giving, and love.

Shana Norris is a brilliant writer. She brings this story to life. Avery, a sixteen-year-old girl, who’s been abandoned and hurt by the one person who you’re supposed to trust in their love for you. Avery thinks she’s strong, has everything in control, and is doing everything right—that she has the prefect plan for life. Then she ends up being Zac’s partner on a school project, and where she thought she had control and truth about her life, Zac shows her another way that brings Avery's walls crumbling down. Zac has the domino effect in his life, too. But this is the beauty of love and the healing it can bring, if they will allow it.

The storyline in The boyfriend Thief is heart-breaking, but strong and beautiful. I was awestruck with Shana Norris’ gift of clarity and depth as she showed Avery and Zac's pain and hurt, and the damage it can do. But also the beauty of healing. I love Avery and Zac’s characters, and their story of love's healing. I highly recommend The Boyfriend Thief as a must read. You will be glad you didn't miss reading this book.
