Of Light and Darkness (Of Light and Darkness #1)

When one human stands before an army of impossible obstacles, the likelihood of overcoming them in this coming-of-age modern fairytale may result in war between light and darkness.

Abandoned as an infant in Prague, naive and strong-willed Charlotte Ruzikova was raised by one of the last Vampires left alive. As a human, she knows no other home than the one nestled deep in the woods of Eastern Europe, where Witches drew spells of enchantment, Phasers threw tea parties, and Elves are the closest in kin. Resident medical doctor and Vampire, Valek Ruzik fears the day his ward would come of age and blossom into a fine woman, and he is forced to confront his own motives as time is of the essence once his past catches up to him, and their lives become endangered...

As genocide and war threatens their secret society, the dictator in power is ready to wipe out Valek's race, but Charlotte will not allow that to happen. (My Thoughts)    5 STARS!!!!!
What came to mind, as I read Of Light and Darkness, was that the two leading characters—Valek and Charlotte—kicked Bella and Edward’s butt lol! When I think of a human teenage girl in love with a vampire, this is the way it would be for me: dark, wicked, and very sensual. Charlotte and Valek was all that and more, I want more of these two. I love a vampire that does what a vampire is supposed to do. Thank you, Shayne Leighton, for writing Valek’s character how a vampire should really be in a Paranormal Romance.

I really loved the modern paranormal fantasy storyline, where the Elves are the Central European Light Magic Regime. They rule the secret occult worlds, and it takes only one drunk Vampire of the darkness to piss them off. Oh yes, that would be my gorgeous vampire Valek. But on that same night Valek finds Charlotte, who he takes home to raise. This all happen about twenty years before, and Charlotte has grown into a woman and her feelings for Valek are changing. I really liked Charlotte. She’s strong-willed, but a little naïve. She keeps pushing Valek on his rules, because she knows she loves him. It takes Valek a while to admit to himself that he’s falling in love with Charlotte. When the blinders finely come off, these two definitely get their romance on. I love this dark romance between Charlotte and Valek.  But there’s also Aiden, who’s an Elf. He’s had plans for "his" Charlotte for a long time, and has waited patiently, wanting her, and now it’s time to take what he wants. Aiden is one sick, sadistic, power-hungry guy. And Charlotte is his way to get it. I’m in love with Of Light and Darkness and will be anxiously waiting the next book in this series. I highly recommend this story as a must read!  Good bye Bella and Edward lol!
