Grave Mercy (His Fair Assassin #1)

Why be the sheep, when you can be the wolf?

Seventeen-year-old Ismae escapes from the brutality of an arranged marriage into the sanctuary of the convent of St. Mortain, where the sisters still serve the gods of old. Here she learns that the god of Death Himself has blessed her with dangerous gifts—and a violent destiny. If she chooses to stay at the convent, she will be trained as an assassin and serve as a handmaiden to Death. To claim her new life, she must destroy the lives of others.

Ismae's most important assignment takes her straight into the high court of Brittany—where she finds herself woefully under prepared—not only for the deadly games of intrigue and treason, but for the impossible choices she must make. For how can she deliver Death’s vengeance upon a target who, against her will, has stolen her heart?

The first thing I want to say about Grave Mercy is, when you start to read this totally awesome story, you should go to your favorite, cozy place where you love to curl up with a novel. You want to take the time to enjoy this book and just get lost in the fantasy of Grave Mercy. R.L. LaFevers took me into the most incredible historical fantasy world with Ismae and Duval's beautiful romance that will be a part of my heart forever.

Ismae is Death's daughter, and at the age of seventeen, the man who has raised her yet hated her, sold her into marriage, but she escaped with the help of a herbwitch. And she takes Ismae to St.Mortain convent. At St.Mortain, the reverend mother and the nuns train Ismae to be an assassin using weapons, poisons, and seductiveness in order to be a handmaiden of death. Ismae is more than willing to be her father's daughter and do his will, but she will never submit under a another man's hand again. When Ismae is assigned by the reverend mother to go with Duval to protect the duchess of Brittany, she'll either trust her heart or her training.

Grave Mercy has an amazing storyline. I love the character, Ismae, for trusting to her own heart and standing up for what she believes in. And Duval, for being a strong, loving and an unselfish man. There's also Beast, DeLornay, Sybella, and Annith, and I hope I'm right about the next book in this series which I think we’ll see more of Beast and Sybella. I highly recommend Grave Mercy as a must, must read.
