Struck (Struck #1) by Jennifer Bosworth

                Struck (Struck #1)

Mia Price is a lightning addict. She’s survived countless strikes, but her craving to connect to the energy in storms endangers her life and the lives of those around her.

Los Angeles, where lightning rarely strikes, is one of the few places Mia feels safe from her addiction. But when an earthquake devastates the city, her haven is transformed into a minefield of chaos and danger. The beaches become massive tent cities. Downtown is a crumbling wasteland, where a traveling party moves to a different empty building each night, the revelers drawn to the destruction by a force they cannot deny. Two warring cults rise to power, and both see Mia as the key to their opposing doomsday prophecies. They believe she has a connection to the freak electrical storm that caused the quake, and to the far more devastating storm that is yet to come.

Mia wants to trust the enigmatic and alluring Jeremy when he promises to protect her, but she fears he isn’t who he claims to be. In the end, the passion and power that brought them together could be their downfall. When the final disaster strikes, Mia must risk unleashing the full horror of her strength to save the people she loves, or lose everything.

 (MY THOUGHTS)         5 Hearts!!!!!
Struck is a very intriguing read. I have to give Jennifer Bosworth high praise for creating this fantastic storyline with radical religious cults, and for making Mia an amazingly strong character. Mia knows who she is and stands strong in her beliefs that everyone should have free will and freedom of choice. Bosworth is an excellent writer and did a fantastic job of blending fiction and non-fiction for an awesome storyline.

Mia Price is a human lighting rod. She’s addicted to lighting after she’s been struck by it and lived. Mia's body holds the lighting inside her. This makes her a unique person to two a cult leaders. The leader of the Seeker cult wants Mia to save the world, and the leader of the Followers, the false prophet Rance Ridley, wants Mia to destroy the world. Mia just wants to be free from both these lunatic cult leaders. Mia doesn’t care what these two sick madman want, it’s her body and she chooses free will, but Mia will have to fight for her freedom, her family and the boy she loves.

Jeremy is Mia's superman who tries to protect her from the Seekers, the false prophet, and from Mai’s own power. Mia begins to fall for her Clark Kent, but when she discovers Jeremy’s secret, she realizes it’s not their love that will give her freedom, but her power.

Struck is a beautiful story about a heroine standing firm in her right to make her own choices, and having the power to take down the people who would steal freedom of choice away from others. I recommend Stuck as a fantastic read for the heroine in every girl.
