Blog Tour: Review & Giveaway Swipe by Evan Angler

                 Swipe (Swipe #1)

Everyone gets the Mark. It gives all the benefits of citizenship. Yet if getting the Mark is such a good thing, then why does it feel so wrong?

Set in a future North America that is struggling to recover after famine and global war, Swipe follows the lives of three kids caught in the middle of a conflict they didn’t even know existed. United under a charismatic leader, every citizen of the American Union is required to get the Mark on their 13th birthday in order to gain the benefits of citizenship.

The Mark is a tattoo that must be swiped by special scanners for everything from employment to transportation to shopping. It’s almost Logan Langly’s 13th birthday and he knows he should be excited about getting the Mark, but he hasn’t been able to shake the feeling he’s being watched. Not since his sister went to get her Mark five years ago . . . and never came back.

When Logan and his friends discover the truth behind the Mark, will they ever be able to go back to being normal teenagers? Find out in the first book of this exciting series that is Left Behind meets Matched for middle-grade readers.

I have to be honest. The Middle Grade genre is not one I usually read, but I love doing Trisha's blog tours over at YA Bound, so I signed up for this tour. After I started reading Swipe, I fell in love with these pre-teens: Logan, Erin, Dane and the rest of the characters. Also, I love the Sci-Fi/Dystopia world. Evan Angler changed my mind about the Middle Grade genre. Angler even had a cute romance in there for Logan that had me smiling for this soon-to-be thirteen-year-old. It was so sweet to see Logan's feelings for Erin. Angler also created a fantastic dystopian world. A world that's more near the truth than fiction for our future. Evan Angler, thank you for your awesome writing and eerie storyline that made me love this Middle Grade read.

In a few months, Logan will turn thirteen. In his world, thirteen is the age when you become an adult and receive the Mark. The Mark is the only way you can get jobs, food, clothes....the only way you can live after the Total War, disease, and climate change that's destroyed most of the world and its people. Logan was excited about getting the Mark until his older sister went to take the Pledge and received her Mark and she never came back. Logan's family was told she had died. Logan became paranoid that someone was watching him. That something wasn't right with this new government called the Dome, and they were hiding something about the death of his sister.

Erin has just moved to Spokie from Beacon. Her father, who works for the Dome government, has been sent to find out what’s going wrong with the Swipe. Erin's mother didn't move with her, and her father and Erin are not happy that her parents have separated. Erin's unhappy with her father that he didn’t tell the Dome he can't just uproot his family for the Dome government. Erin's father never tells her what work he does for the Dome, and nobody knows about what the government does, and everybody knows you don't ask questions, either. Erin’s going to find out what her father's work is, and the friendship between Erin and Logan—when they both find the answer to this mystery—will make Logan choose a different life. A life that Erin’s not willing to choose for herself.

Swipe pulled me right along with Logan and Erin to find the answers to what the Dome government is hiding about the Mark and Logan’s sister. I recommend Swipe as a fantastic Middle Grade read and I will be reading Sneak, Evan Angler's next awesome book in this series.
