The Boys of Summer (Summer #1)
by C.J. Duggan
Release Date: 12/17/12
Summary from Goodreads:
It seemed only natural to nickname them the ‘OnslowBoys’. Every time they swaggered in the front doorof the Onslow Hotel after a hard week’s work, their laughter was loud and genuine as they settled onto their bar stools. I peeked through the restaurant partition, a flimsy divider between my world and theirs. I couldn’t help but smile whenever I saw them, saw him ... Toby Morrison.
Quiet seventeen-year-old Tess doesn’t relish the thought of a summertime job. She wants nothing more than to forget the past haunts of high school and have fun with her best friends before the dreaded Year Twelve begins.
To Tess, summer is when everything happens: riding bikes down to the lake, watching the fireworks at the Onslow Show and water bomb fights at the sweltering Sunday markets.
How did she let her friends talk her into working?
After first-shift disasters, rude, wealthy tourists and a taunting ex-boyfriend, Tess is convinced nothing good can come of working her summer away. However, Tess finds unlikely allies in a group of locals dubbed ‘The Onslow Boys’, who are old enough to drive cars, drink beer and not worry about curfews. Tess’s summer ofworking expands her world with a series of first times with new friends, forbidden love and heartbreaking chaos.
All with the one boy she has never been able to forget.
It will be a summer she will always remember.
Warning: sexual references, and occasional course language.
The Boys of Summer is going to be hard review for me to write while trying not to give any spoilers. So I'm going to try to keep this review short and to the point of what I loved. First, I absolutely loved everything about this novel; the humorous storyline, the grab-you-by-the-heartstrings romance, the gorgeous, fun-loving Australian Onslow Boys, Tess, the main character who actually has a brain and uses it, and the author C.J. Duggan, who can write a strong storyline and also a hot, steamy sex scene with class. I’d also like to give Duggan a huge Thank You for writing a true New Adult storyline. I’ve read a lot of books claiming they’re New Adult, and well…not so much. There’s definitely a BIG difference between New Adult and Adult Romance, and Duggan nailed it.
Tess is smart, beautiful, and witty, and I enjoyed watching her grow through this story from a teen girl to a strong young woman. I also enjoyed seeing Toby’s love encourage this growth in her. Toby is a strong, self-assured, smart and witty and also, has a little bit of mischievous broody side. He’s gorgeous twenty-two year old hottie and I absolutely fell in love with this Australian heart-throb. Tess and Toby set my heart on fire with their romance, and I loved every minute of their story.
I also loved every one of these Onslow Boys in this novel! If I have a weakness, it’s for Australian guys. They’re everything sexy to me... their sexy, strong personality, their accent that absolutely drives me swoon crazy! And the Onslow Boys did it for me. Toby, Sean, Stan, Ringer, Chris and Adam. Now Adam is not twenty-two like the rest of these guys, he is seventeen and one of Tess's best friends, but he is most definitely an Onslow Boy and I hope that C.J. Duggan will give him his own romance and story, too. I also hope Chris will get his. Sean, who I truly fell in love with, is getting his in the sequel. But I love all these guys, and I know I'm gushing, but dang if I can help it. Duggan just did these Onslow Boys right with sex appeal that oozes off the pages of this awesome novel!
The Boys of Summer is hilarious, witty, and drool-worthy, and I highly recommend Tess and these fun-loving, gorgeous hotties from the land down under with every bit of heart love I have for this New Adult novel.

My Favorite Quotes:
My Favorite Quotes:
"Don't worry love, Seany-boy has that effect on all the girls." Rosanna knocked my chair with her foot as she wriggled her pencil thin eyebrows in a 'hubba-hubba' motion.
"And he's really nice, too added Ellie, dreamily.
"Ha! It's the nice ones you have to worry about," Melbe said.
"Remember, boys, hands off your nuts."
Chris almost lost his grip on his cargo. As I slid through and stood behind the partition I could hear the uproarious laughter; Stan had nearly choked on his beer, and I could hear someone pummeling him on the back as he coughed and fought for air. I peeked through the partition, seeing Toby's shoulder vibrating from laughter.
Shaking his head, he turned to Stan. "She is something else."
I had dreamed of those lips, but never had I imagined they would be so soft, so utterly mind shattering. A small noise escaped me in pleasure; I could feel Toby smile against my mouth as he slowly edged me back against the table, the weight of his body pressed against mine; it felt like a dream, like I should wake at any moment, but no, this was real, this was definitely real!
"Oh, I forgot that jail bait here was you guys' little pet. I guess you can't handle a real woman with a brain."
"Which instantly rules any of you out," Toby added coolly as he blew the excess chalk off his cue and gave them a knowing smirk. Laughter and catcalls sounded in stereo as the Onslow Boys overheard the exchange.
"Hey lookie, it's my girlfriend." Sean put his arm around me. "What's for tea, honey? Are all the house chores done?"
"One: in yours dreams, and two: it's the 1990's not the 1950's you sexist pig."
I felt the vibration of Toby's laughter through his arm as we both watched Sean's brows rise in surprise.
"Tess, will you marry me?" Toby laughed.
